Sotavento Beach Fuerteventura
Main features:

Playa de Sotavento in Fuerteventura: a paradise for everyone.
Sotavento beach, in the southeast of Fuerteventura, is much more than a corner of golden sand and crystal-clear waters. This extensive stretch of coastline of approximately nine kilometres of golden sand and turquoise waters, famous for its wild beauty and its connection with water sports, holds a secret that makes it the ideal place for families: its natural lagoon. This unique phenomenon, created by a sand barrier that emerges at low tide, forms a giant pool of calm, shallow waters, perfect for the youngest members of the family.
Here, the strong Atlantic swell lies on the other side of the barrier, providing a safe space where children can play, swim and splash without worry, while parents enjoy the tranquillity of this protected environment. Moreover, its postcard-perfect blue waters invite you to dive in and disconnect from the world.
Sotavento has established itself as one of the most beautiful beaches in Fuerteventura. It is also a place where nature unfolds in all its splendour: wide horizons, clear skies and an almost lunar landscape that seems to be designed to make you forget about the clock. Whether you are looking for a relaxing day with the family, a safe place for the children to enjoy the sea, or simply a place where you can disconnect, this beach has a charm that will not leave you indifferent.
How to get to Sotavento beach.
Sotavento is easy to reach. From the main road FV-2, in the direction of Costa Calma, there are signs leading to the beach.
The best way to get there is through Risco del Paso, where a tarmac road leads directly to a car park near the shore. Although the beach maintains its unspoilt character, it has facilities such as parking and a well-kept beach bar for the convenience of visitors.
If you have a car, this is the most convenient option, but you can always go by bus.
By bus (guagua)
You can get on bus line 1 which runs from Puerto del Rosario to Morro Jable and passes through Costa Calma and Sotavento beach.
Another of the lines that passes through Sotavento beach is line 5, which leaves from Morro Jable and ends in Costa Calma, so it is another option to take into account.
Remember to remove as much sand as possible before getting on the bus!
A beach with two shores in Fuerteventura
What makes Sotavento beach in Fuerteventura unique is the formation of a natural lagoon, created by a sand barrier located between 100 and 300 metres from the shore.
At low tide, this three-kilometre long lagoon emerges, offering a serene and shallow body of water, ideal for those who wish to take up water sports or simply enjoy a quiet swim.
The Windsurfing and Kitesurfing world championship beach.
Thanks to its constant and vigorous winds, Sotavento has established itself as a world reference for windsurfing and kitesurfing. Every year, this natural setting hosts internationally renowned competitions such as the Windsurf: Sotavento Grand Slam, attracting sportsmen and women and amateurs from all over the world who seek to challenge the waves and the wind in an incomparable setting.
